RayCAD, the Revit MEPF tagging plugin, places neat, non-overlapping tags on MEPF production and shop drawings inside Autodesk® Revit® (2021 to 2027).
Supported today: HVAC and Pipes in Floor Plans and Section Views. Coming soon: Electrical, Fire Protection, and Structural.
What it does
RayCAD places tags the way a careful drafter would: neat, readable, and clear of each other. It tags where the information changes along a run, such as a new size, elevation, direction, or system, instead of tagging every element. It uses your firm's own native Revit tag families and drafting standards, so a tag reads its values live from the model and never goes out of sync.
What it tags
- HVAC: Ducts, Duct Fittings (Elbows, Tees, Wyes, Crosses, Transitions, and Unions), Duct Accessories and Dampers, Flex Ducts and Rectangular Flex Connectors, Air Terminals, and Mechanical Equipment. Supports both native Revit families and MEP fabrication parts (ITM).
- Piping: Pressurised and Gravity Pipes, Sloped Pipes, and Pipe Accessories. Tags pipe runs where size or elevation changes, groups parallel pipes under one shared tag block, and tags gravity pipes with size and system abbreviation.
- Views: Floor Plans and Section Views.
How RayCAD works
- Configure Your Standards Once: In Configure Auto-Tag, map each element type to the tag family and type your firm uses. Set layout profiles in Global Settings for tags inside and outside Ducts, tag orientation, duct tag rules, ignored overlap families, and leader attachment sides. Save your setup as a reusable preset.
- Reuse Across Projects: On any new project, click Apply Project Preset to load your firm's saved tagging standard in one click.
- Tag a View: Open a Floor Plan or Section View, select the elements to tag, and click Auto-Tag. RayCAD checks the view setup, reads the model locally through the Revit API, and places tags in clean, collision-free positions with live progress and Cancel at any step.
- Review and Issue: The Review Tags window summarizes placed tags, calculates time and cost saved, marks tight areas that need a second look with a red line in the view, explains each one in plain words, and takes you directly to them.
- Keep Tags Current: When the model changes after a coordination round, select the updated elements and click Retag to remove and replace their tags in seconds.
Who it's for
MEP detailing firms, MEP engineering teams, BIM managers, and Mechanical and Plumbing contractors who produce Revit MEP documentation and LOD 400 fabrication shop drawings.
The problem it solves
Manual tagging takes 8 to 10 hours per sheet on a typical HVAC project. Every coordination round means checking and moving tags again as the model changes. Revit's built-in "Tag All Not Tagged" places a tag on every element with no overlap awareness, so the sheet still needs hours of manual cleanup.
Results
In production use, RayCAD cuts tagging time by up to 70%, bringing 8 to 10 hours per sheet down to 2 to 3 hours, reducing missed-tag RFIs by roughly 20%, and allowing the same team to take on 1.5x more projects. Large MEPF contractors and subcontractors in Australia and the UAE, whose modelling teams produce LOD 400 fabrication drawings, use RayCAD on their production shop drawings.
Other tools in the ribbon
- Review Tags: Lists the tags that need a second look, with a plain reason for each, marks them in the view, and takes you to them.
- Retag: Removes and replaces tags on the elements you select.
- Configure Auto-Tag and Apply Project Preset: Set up tag families, active-view family filters, and inside/outside duct layout profiles once, then reuse them on every project.
- Connect Conduits: Joins two selected Conduits with Elbows and Conduit pieces in one step. It detects how the two Conduits meet (in line, crossing, parallel offset, U-turn, riser, kink, or sloped), shows the join in a live 3D preview among nearby elements, and lets you adjust the bend radius, angles, and route before it builds while keeping the selected Conduits in place.
- Cut Ducts: Splits selected Ducts into pieces of a set length.
- Parameter Sync: Copies parameter values and fabrication connector names across many elements in the active view. One section can cover a fabrication item across all its services, with per-section verification.
- Align Tool: Lines up native or fabrication elements and their tags to a straight edge, and rotates Revit's 3D section box to match any edge in two clicks.
- Create Sheets: Creates sheets in bulk from an Excel or CSV list.
Additional information and privacy
- Supported Revit Versions: Revit 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 (from one installer)
- Platform: Windows (native Revit ribbon tab, no Dynamo or scripting required)
- Local On-Device Execution: RayCAD runs locally on your computer. Your Revit model and project data are never uploaded to external servers.
