Material Bank is a marketplace where architects and interior designers search, compare and order free physical samples of finishes, surfaces and products from hundreds of manufacturers. Samples from different brands arrive together in one box, with next-day delivery for orders placed by the evening cutoff. The European platform lists more than 45,000 materials from over 450 brands, and in the DACH region the company runs a physical material library in Stuttgart, formerly known as Raumprobe.
Material Bank is a search and sampling platform for architectural and interior materials. Founded in 2019 by Adam Sandow in Boca Raton, Florida, it lets design professionals browse products from many manufacturers in one place and order samples free of charge. The brands pay for the service, and the designer receives a single consolidated package the next day instead of chasing samples from each supplier. In Europe the service runs at materialbank.eu, with a logistics site near Paris and a strong presence in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Key features
Material search – filter tens of thousands of materials by category, color, brand and certification
Free samples – order samples from several brands in one request, at no cost to the designer
Next-day delivery – orders placed by 6:30 PM CET ship overnight in a single box
Boards – save and organize materials by project and share them with colleagues
Brand contact – message manufacturer representatives directly about specs, pricing and availability
Sustainability data – search by environmental product declarations and material health certifications
Europe and DACH
Material Bank expanded into the German-speaking market by acquiring Raumprobe, a Stuttgart material library with around 50,000 physical samples and a 1,200 square meter showroom. Raumprobe founders Joachim Stumpp and Hannes Bäuerle became Managing Directors for DACH, and the space now operates as Material Bank Studio, combining in-person browsing and events with the online sampling service.
Who it's for
The service is free for architects, interior designers, specifiers, students and educators who need physical samples to make and present material decisions. Manufacturers of surfaces, textiles, flooring, lighting and furniture use it as a sales channel to get their products in front of specifiers.
