Tongling Recluse
Tongling Recluse is a 160-square-meter private residence in Tongling, Anhui Province, China, designed by RSAA / Buro Ziyu Zhuang and completed in 2017. The house was conceived around a mature tree already growing on the site, with the building's form and courtyard arranged to preserve and frame that tree rather than clear it. A sequence of interlocking volumes in wood, stone, and concrete creates a layered relationship between enclosed living space and open courtyard, giving the client a quiet retreat that balances privacy with a strong connection to its natural surroundings. Why this tool/tech was selected
For Tongling Recluse, the design team modeled the house in SketchUp and turned to Modelo's web-based KooRender feature to visualize the finished project against its real mountainside setting.
