Company Overview
Stephen George + Partners (SGP) is one of the United Kingdom's leading architectural practices, established in Leicester in 1970 and now recognized by the Architects' Journal AJ100 as one of the country's largest firms. From a single Leicester studio, the practice has grown to around 100 staff working across five offices: Leicester, which remains the head office, alongside Leeds, London, Birmingham, and Solihull. This national footprint gives SGP genuine reach across the UK while keeping the close client relationships and rapid responsiveness that have defined the practice for more than five decades. SGP describes itself as a practice of architects and master planners, and its work spans nine sectors: logistics and industrial, healthcare, offices and workplace, education, residential, retail and mixed-use, interiors and fit-out, transport, and sports and leisure. The practice is particularly well known nationally in the industrial sector, where it has completed over 90 million square feet of floor space and delivered logistics buildings ranging from 1,000 to 1,000,000 square feet. It is actively building recognition in other sectors too, with award-winning transportation projects among its recent successes. Beyond core architecture and master planning, SGP offers a broad set of complementary services, including BIM coordination, interior design, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and principal designer roles under both CDM and Building Safety Act requirements. Many of these capabilities sit within SGP Digital, the practice's dedicated function covering IT, BIM, CGI, automation, and AI. SGP Digital not only supports the architectural side of the business but also generates revenue in its own right through BIM and CGI services, reflecting how central technology has become to the way the practice works and grows. That digital focus is rooted in the firm's history. SGP was one of the first practices in Leicester to give every member of technical staff an individual workstation, positioning itself at the forefront of technology from an early stage. The practice continues to see digital capability as a competitive differentiator, and in 2022 achieved formal ISO 19650 recognition for its ability to deliver projects to internationally recognized information management standards. The practice is guided by a clear set of values, summed up in the phrase "we care, we challenge, we deliver," and reinforced by its reputation for quality, reliability, and integrity. SGP listens to clients, challenges them constructively to produce the best possible outcome, and is widely respected for its ability to deliver, including taking over schemes at concept stage and carrying them through to completion. Its commitment to social and environmental responsibility is well established: the practice won an RIBA President's Medal for a book on sustainable building materials, written around its Sustainable Construction Academy project in Dartford. Looking ahead, SGP is focused on digital transformation and the shift from delivering drawings, schedules, and specifications to delivering structured project data that supports assets through construction and into operation. Emerging priorities include digital twins, data-driven decision making, point cloud processing, automation, and the careful, considered adoption of AI, all underpinned by an increasing focus on security. To support these ambitions, the practice has invested in a modern, resilient, cloud-based IT estate, giving its teams the performance, flexibility, and confidence to grow and to keep designing exceptional buildings for their clients.
