Coal Drops Yard illustrates a strand of work that has become increasingly central: intervening in existing structures rather than replacing them. Retaining Victorian industrial fabric while inserting contemporary retail required resolving structure, weatherproofing and circulation within constraints a new building would not impose - and produced something neither the old nor a new building could have been alone.
