Company Overview

About Franz Nüsing

Franz Nüsing GmbH & Co KG is a German manufacturer of movable partition walls, based at Borkstraße in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia. The company designs and produces custom mobile walls that provide flexible room separation, and describes itself as among the largest and most successful manufacturers of movable partitions internationally, with products installed worldwide.

The business employs roughly one hundred people, split between production staff, commercial employees and apprentices, and remains family-led across four generations.

A Long Industrial History

Nüsing was founded on 10 June 1878, when master carpenter Franz Nüsing established a billiards and blinds factory in Münster. For four decades the workshop built billiard tables, work demanding considerable precision - a single three-centimetre slate bed and a complicated levelling mechanism left no room for approximation. The last billiard table left the factory at the end of the First World War.

Blind manufacture led naturally to roller shutters before the turn of the century, and from there to the insight that has defined the company since: a firm capable of making precise moving screens for windows can also make them for rooms. By the early 1920s Nüsing had adopted new techniques and extended production into folding partitions - the first movable room divisions. Over subsequent decades it developed single-shell and sound-absorbing variants using new surface materials, and by the 1960s had become the leading German folding door manufacturer, with installations across Europe and the Middle East.

Product Range

Movable Walls

  • Premium Greenline - the sustainability-focused system
  • Premium EASYmatic - semi-automatic operation
  • Premium Glass - glazed movable partitions maintaining daylight and visual connection
  • Premium Classic - the core solid-panel system
  • Premium Acoustic - high sound-insulation performance
  • Premium Protect - fire and smoke protection systems

Movable Glass Walls and Folding Partitions

The Visioline glass wall system, alongside the Flexi and Faltina-plan folding partitions, extends the range into lighter and more compact division solutions.

Performance and Certification

Acoustic, fire and smoke performance are where movable walls succeed or fail. A partition that divides a hall into two rooms is worthless if speech carries between them, and one that forms part of a fire compartment must be certified accordingly. Nüsing holds the necessary certificates for fire protection, smoke protection and sound insulation, operates its own in-house test laboratory for continuous verification, and is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001. The company describes itself as market leader in noise, fire and smoke protection partitions.

Service and Specification Support

The company supports architects and specifiers directly, assisting with tender text preparation and design drawings, and its field service covers the process from planning through site measurement to assembly. For a product installed into a structural opening with demanding acoustic seals, accurate measurement and skilled installation matter as much as the manufactured item.

Applications

Movable walls are used wherever a space must serve several purposes - school halls and classrooms, hotel ballrooms and conference suites, offices and meeting rooms, community and religious buildings, and exhibition venues. They allow a single volume to be reconfigured daily, improving utilisation without additional floor area.

Why AEC Teams Should Know Nüsing

For architects and contractors specifying flexible interiors, Nüsing is an established European reference point for acoustically and fire-rated movable partition systems across the built environment.
