Why this tool/tech was selected

BETA Group's GIS and Asset Management team, led by project manager Tito Sanchez, was looking for a way to help the municipalities it serves keep pace with the demands of infrastructure asset management. Manual inspections were reliable but slow, and Sanchez believed BETA could better serve its clients by leveraging emerging technologies like LiDAR. After conversations with Cyvl co-founder and CEO Daniel Pelaez in 2021, BETA began piloting Cyvl's vehicle-mounted LiDAR and AI-powered assessment platform.

The technology proved itself quickly: BETA could scan and assess far more infrastructure in far less time than manual methods allowed, without sacrificing the data quality municipalities depend on for planning decisions. The previous method used

Before adopting Cyvl's technology, BETA Group's infrastructure assessments relied on manual field inspections. Large municipalities could require up to three weeks to inspect, while even smaller communities typically needed a minimum of one and a half to two weeks. That pace made the process time-consuming and costly, and limited how many municipalities BETA's GIS and Asset Management team could realistically serve at once.

In Haverhill, Massachusetts, for example, BETA used Cyvl's platform to scan 230 centerline miles across 2,218 segments in a matter of days, generating the data needed to build the city's five-year pavement management plan.
