Eyal Ofer’s new Columbus Circle Building at 1841 Broadway has become first project in New York City, US, to use the AI construction platform Buildots.

After site data is captured via helmet-mounted 360-degree cameras and is automatically analysed using proprietary AI algorithms, Buildots provides the project management team with true-to-life progress reports supported by visuals. This is said to lead to improved efficiency in terms of costs, labour and time.

The 26-story, 298-ft.-tall building will include nearly 197,000 sq. ft. of residential space encompassing 123 housing units, as well as over 20,000 sq. ft. of commercial retail space. Its developer is Global Holdings Management Group.

Introduction
Target Value Design (TVD), the process of designing towards a budget without sacrificing quality or extending schedules, is increasingly popular with owners. TVD works when everyone involved in a project is part of the process. It requires true collaboration, transparency, rapid estimating, and rapid decision-making.

Atrium Health, a non-profit health organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina, employed TVD to build a new rehabilitation hospital and acute care bed tower at the Atrium Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) campus. Atrium awarded the $650M project to DPR Rodgers (a joint venture between DPR Construction and Rodgers Builders), NBBJ, and WSP. To manage the projects, Stantec was selected to augment Atrium’s in-house staff.

Preconstruction planning for the two projects was handled separately. The team tackled the $100M rehab hospital first. From March to December 2020, approximately 30 people from multiple cluster groups collaborated towards the goal. They used their existing tools to track their project costs, budget, and timelines as they had done with other projects in the past.

“Tracking decisions for the rehabilitation hospital quickly became chaotic,” said Melanie Moreschi, Preconstruction Manager for DPR Rodgers. “Due to having so many users in the same tracking log, it was too easy for files to be overwritten, causing new items to be lost or even to have two copies of the same file running simultaneously. Furthermore, it was challenging to track items affecting multiple building systems such as structure, skin, mechanical and electrical into separate project clusters.”

DPR Rodgers had to ensure that the TVD process was smoother for the CMC bed tower project. They had to find an alternative — and fast.

The Paradise Street Project, more commonly known as Liverpool ONE, was a 250,000 sqm regeneration project in Liverpool City Centre. Managed by Grosvenor Europe, the development is comprised of: over 200 shops, more than 500 apartments, three hotels, 25 restaurants, a 14-screen Odeon cinema, three office buildings, a Green Flag awarded five-acre public park, 2,000 car parking spaces and a public transport interchange.

As such, it is an internationally recognized model for other cities that want to deliver sympathetic regeneration projects. It opened in September 2020 and is, with 3.1 million square feet, the largest and the first "indoor-outdoor" stadium in the NFL. It is also the home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams who will host Super Bowl LVI against the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2022.

Inspired by Los Angeles Rams Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke’s vision for an iconic piece of architecture and entertainment destination, the international architecture firm HKS designed the centerpiece of a 298-acre mixed-use development with retail, commercial office space, a hotel, residential units, and outdoor park spaces. The complex features a 70,000-seat stadium, a 2.5-acre plaza and a 6,000-seat performance venue situated together beneath a canopy of more than 3,000 translucent ETFE panels and 34,000+ perforated anodized aluminum panels. What’s remarkable is that each of these panels is unique, creating a pattern with curving geometry in a way that no two panels are the same.
